Imara Tech uses lean manufacturing methods to efficiently build mechanized agricultural equipment for smallholder farmers in East Africa.

They are a manufacturing start-up based in Arusha, Tanzania, in their first year of full-time operations. They produce agricultural equipment by outsourcing components to local workshops, which we then assemble into finish products that can be distributed and sold. This model allows them to supply just-in-time for seasonal market demand and consequently reduces overhead and inventory costs. They are building a product portfolio of labor and time-saving equipment that can be used for income-generating purposes. This year they are targeting generating $160,000 in revenue from sales of their Multi-crop thresher machine, and hope to raise a seed round by the end of 2019 based on their traction.
