La description

The clearest Season 16 PTR gold test for Diablo 4 is three points in the War Plans Gold reward node, paired with the activity you clear fastest. Keep the setup only if its measured gold per hour beats your Season 15 reference rate. For a separate wallet option, D4 Gold does not predict what the PTR node will earn.

Set a fair test before spending Marks

The PTR window runs from October 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PDT through November 3 at 10:00 a.m. PST. War Plans Tactics lets you put up to three points into a Gold reward node, making War Plan activities more likely to pay gold instead of a random reward mix; it does not guarantee gold on every completion.

Marks of Wisdom replace the gold-cost respec for War Plan nodes during the test. You earn Marks by completing War Plan activities and spend them to move points between nodes. The stated PTR cap is around 20 Marks, so take a screenshot of your current layout before changing it and keep track of the Marks remaining.

Compare Gold setups by what they pay you for

Activity nodes sit in the upper part of the tree, while reward nodes, including Gold, sit lower down. Start with the activity you clear fastest, then compare it against any follow-on content its activity line opens.

Setup Point focus Best comparison Main trade-off
Gold-first Three points in Gold; activity points in your fastest route Gold per hour on a familiar activity Less focus on other reward types
Helltide follow-on Helltide activity, then Greater Helltides if offered, plus Gold Full-run gold, including travel and recovery Higher difficulty may cost enough time to lose the rate comparison
Nightmare Dungeon follow-on Nightmare Dungeon activity, then Escalation Dungeons if offered, plus Gold Completion speed, especially with a group A longer route can underperform a faster solo activity

At least one point in the Helltide or Nightmare Dungeon activity line opens a follow-on choice. Do not assume the higher-difficulty choice pays better: time the whole run and compare the resulting hourly rate.

Lock the reward layout, then confirm the tree

Open the War Plans Tactics tree and choose the activity you clear fastest. If you want to test Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons, put at least one point into the matching activity line.
Allocate all three reward-node points to Gold for the gold-focused run. Check that the tree displays three points on Gold and that your chosen activity points remain in place.
Keep other reward nodes at zero for this comparison. Nodes for Obducite, Salvage, Gems, Keys, Horadric Cube Materials, and other rewards can make a different layout better for a different goal.
Record your starting gold, route duration, ending gold, and Marks remaining. Repeat the same route conditions before comparing layouts.

Keep Tyrael's Boons on the Scent of Gold monster-gold branch while measuring gold. Pairing that path with the War Plans Gold node points both monster-kill gold and War Plan completion rewards toward your test. Preview details put a Boons refund at around 5,000,000 gold per point, so avoid changing that path casually just to experiment with Tactics.

Count the whole run, not just the reward

Include travel, deaths, and vendor time in each session. Decide before opening Tortured Gifts or War Plan caches which items you will sell and which you will salvage; slow inventory decisions can erase a small gain from the Gold node. Compare the total gold earned against the full time spent, rather than judging the setup from one chest or activity completion.

Helltides are scheduled to start on the hour in base-game zones and on the half hour in expansion zones. The announced PTR change also keeps Aberrant Cinders between tides, so note how that affects your route instead of assuming a tide-end reset. Group play can favor Nightmare Dungeon activity points if the party clears Escalation content faster, but time the full party route before calling it a better gold setup.

Keep PTR results separate from live Season 15: the PTR node does not change live-server respec costs or current live income. After your next PTR login, check the current patch notes, confirm three points remain on Gold, and record one complete run against your Season 15 reference. If your constraint shifts from gold to item needs, check the best place to buy diablo 4 runes listing as a separate decision, then return to the tree and log the next run.

Season 16's Diablo 4 PTR gives you a fresh way to test War Plans: put up to three points into Gold, choose activities you clear quickly, and track your gold per hour without spending character gold to respec.
