You'll notice pretty quickly that opening packs in Pokémon TCG Pocket is less about luck alone and more about squeezing value out of every mode the game gives you. Some players start fresh, while others look at Pokemon TCG Pocket Accounts when they want a different starting point, but either way, the early goal is the same: grab as many Pack Hourglasses, shop tickets, and useful cards as you can without wasting resources.



Use missions and solo battles properly
Beginner missions and Advanced missions are the first things worth clearing. They don't last forever, since each one can only be finished once, but the rewards are good enough that you shouldn't ignore them. Solo mode is just as important. The Battle Guides teach the basics, and while the game only pushes you through the early ones, it's worth completing more of them. Guides later on hand out helpful items and even give access to a Wigglytuff ex Rental Deck, which can make some awkward battles much easier.



Push Step-up battles for tickets
After that, move through the Step-up battles in order: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Expert Solo Mode comes after, with AI decks built around different types and stronger lists as you go. First-time clears give Pack Hourglasses, but the side objectives are where a lot of players miss value. You might need to win without losing points, deal 100 or more damage in one hit, or use a deck with a type advantage or disadvantage. Those extra tasks often pay out shop tickets, and those tickets turn into more opening chances later.



Rental Decks are better than they look
Don't sleep on Rental Decks. They're limited to ten uses, sure, but that's plenty if you save them for specific solo objectives. Pulling key cards from packs can unlock decks built around Charizard ex, Machamp ex, Blastoise ex, Pikachu ex, Venusaur ex, Mewtwo ex, Celebi ex, Palkia ex, Dialga ex, Darkrai ex, and plenty of other strong cards. They let you clear missions even if your own collection still looks messy. Use them like tools, not trophies. If a Rental Deck helps finish two or three ticket challenges, it has done its job.



Spend tickets and hourglasses with a plan
Once you have shop tickets, check the shop before spending anything else. The monthly refreshed Hourglass offers should usually come first, because they expire. The one-time offers are cheaper per Hourglass, but they'll still be there later. Daily missions also matter more than they seem. Four Pack Hourglasses a day adds up, and the daily gift bundle is free value. Level-ups help too, giving Pack Hourglasses and Poké Gold. When you've saved enough Poké Gold, you can turn it into another pack, but don't rush just because the button is there.



Know when to move on
There's a point where staying on the same pack stops feeling smart. If you already have two copies of several chase cards, duplicates become more common, and most players would rather fill gaps than collect extra shinedust. At that stage, Wonder Pick is your friend, especially for Pokémon ex cards you still need. Pack Points should be treated like an emergency option for stubborn cards that refuse to show up.
