EA Sports announced that not only will Jackson return to the game for the first time since Madden NFL 15, but Jackson will also get the distinction of being a Madden cover player. After nearly 35 years since his NFL career started with the 1987 season, Jackson appears on a unique digital cover of Madden NFL 22. Beginning on Friday, players are once more able to play with him in virtual reality. EA Sports also teamed up with Nike to re-create the sportswear company's famous Bo Knows ad campaign by creating a digitally rendered version of his signature shoe, which is the Nike Air Bo Turf and incorporating it into the game.

Jackson has become the seventh running back named as a Madden cover athlete. He is followed by Eddie George (Madden 2001), Marshall Faulk (Madden 2003), Shaun Alexander (Madden 2007), Peyton Hillis (Madden 12), Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders (both Madden 25).
