The FIFA 22 trailer is focused on new animation technologies, which the PC isn't getting. This is the year that EA Sports opens the kimono on how in-game animations used to be motion-captured, and how they've upgraded this process in the hope of bringing something that's more convincing football.
Before now, every video you saw on the pitch was recorded in a small studio by one to three players. From the forty-stepovers that the 13-year-old wiseguy who you were paired with in a game online makes on his way from halfway circle to six-yard box to his Griezmann-dad-dance when he snoops past your goalie, everything occurred in that mo-cap studio.
In this year's edition, EA Sports used an actual football arena and captured 22 players at once, all on the ball, tracking back, taking a smart break instead of rising from that passing glance. The whole thing. It's called HyperMotion Technology, mostly because it's a good sound, but is also to suggest that motion animations throughout the game ought to be enhanced as a result.
...And here's the disappointing news. HyperMotion isn't included in the PC version which is expected to be the last version that the game. The reason? to keep the minimum requirements low and keep those running old PCs from being excluded according to EA.
