Sorry obtained on one of my spiels there haha. No, UWP matches cannot be launched through Steam properly to my understanding. There is some software such as GLoSC that have workarounds, but that one did not work for me. However, UWP programs generally just recognize Xinput gamepads. It is a part of the Microsoft Store DRM as well as the UWP platform. The Dreamcast and GameCube USB adapters floating out there comprehend as DirectInput, the elderly API (and dismissed by UWP).
I really wish someone would figure out how to get a second stick on that control. This was the best feeling control I've ever needed. Literally the only negative is it's console is dead and so is the control strategy. I meanI figure that is a pretty major downside. The L/Rs are not satisfying to press just like on the dreamcast control, and the buttons are somewhat nearer to what the Switch expert has (clicky, without the glassy feel)
Ngl, I still have mine and that I like everything about it but compared to some contemporary Xbone control, the pole texture is miles ahead on the Xbone controller. And as /u/SFWxMadHatter said, the Xbox control lineage is all but a direct descendant of the Dreamcast. Heck, if memory serves the early mockups and sketches to the OG Xbox controllers were derivatives of the Dreamcast controller.
Somewhat biased, but I have come to truly love my Xbone controllers. I've got two gen two (Bluetooth capable) basic black controllers and they've been fantastic. Great build quality (I throw mine in my backpack and the rods are still in great shape), good ergonomics, connectivity is amazing with all the Bluetooth support on virtually everything today, same with all the input with SO many games, and battery life is great at least on fundamental alkalines (rechargeable have been a bit hit or miss for me personally ).
The only thing I would really urge Microsoft to change is allowing multiple apparatus pairings especially now that they are pushing xCloud. Let me freely move between my PC and phone or Xbox and telephone, etc. without needing to re-pair each time. The Xbox controller's ABXY placement is a direct continuation of Sega's, starting with the Genesis/Megadrive 6-button pad's ABC/XYZ which directly lasted on the Sega Saturn.
There is a very cheap PSO2 Meseta at https://www.pso2ah.com/
